AIRTEL CANT CONNECT OR REFUND

I shifted out of Gurgaon and Airtel were unable to give me a phone and internet connection in the new city.Though I handed in my telephone instrument and modem at Gurgaon and got a receipt, they havent given me a refund for over 4 months! In the latest of communications, they claim they have adjusted it against a bill–when I paid all mybills before leaving Gurgaon.
It was at their insistence that I even agreed to a transfer too my new address,Then they themselves couldnt do it!!And they have the nerve not to pay!

From Airtel Broandband blog on August 23:

TRAVELLERS TO INDIA KNOW THIS....

Hello!
I have been in India for quite a time and I want to share my experience on prepaid mobile phones to others...
It was not as easy as I thought, but then that's India, isn't it? :-)

I got a phone with warranty card right away, that was not the problem. But I wasn't prepared to the conditions:
SIM cards are quite cheap, about 150-200 Rupees. But you should know that if you are TRAVELLING around India that you can only recharge your card (for most of the providers) in the area where you bought it!
For example, I had a Delhi SIM card and I went to Agra and could NOT recharge it, so I had to buy a new card, tell all my friends my new number....
But even if you have a provider (like Airtel) that recharges cards in other states, you will have to pay 2-5 Rupees per minute for incoming calls and also the costs for your outgoing calls will rise with the same amount per minute.
That means you won't be able to be called as soon as your amount is gone...
Maybe that's normal in other countries, too, but knowing only the German conditions it was quite extraordinary for me, because "home" you never think where you are, you just get incoming calls for free, recharge your card whereever you like... But, well, let's be fair: Germany is a LITLLE smaller than India!

Okay, so if you travel a lot and want to keep the same phone number all the time, reload for a high sum from the beginning to cover all the costs you might have for incoming calls, too!

Costs for outgoing calls to Europe were - according to my experience - about 17 Rupees a minute and 3 Rupees for SMS (being in the town of purchase of your SIM card...).

Network coverage is another thing to carefully think about!
Most providers have good network in all of the big cities, but it may occur that in some towns you can GET calls but not MAKE (especially international) any.
I had problems in Rajasthan, for example.
As to my experience and what people told me, Airtel has one of the largest and most reliable networks and you will be able to call abroad from all over India. (except on many trains, of course, due to absence of any network)

Recharge cards can often be bought for the following costs:
About 335 Rs, valid for 30 days, pure phone amount 150 Rs
About 650 Rs, valid for 45 days, pure phone amount 360 Rs
About 1225 Rs, valid for 90 days, pure phone amount 950 Rs
About 3300 Rs, valid for 365 days, pure phone amount 2700 Rs
(varies a little according to provider)

Another advice: buy phone cards for 200 Rs (phone amount about 180 Rs, valid 4 months) in your post office - or ask there, they'll send you to the right shop. You will have a secret number and can use the card to call abroad from any fixed network phone, for example your hotel phone. They won't let you use them in ISD shops, of course.
To Germany this option is much cheaper than phoning from your mobile (about half the price) or phoning from ISD boxes (often more than 20 or 30 Rs).

So, that will help you, I hope, to avoid the mistakes I made! :-)

Have a nice time phoning (and travelling) in India!

Bye
Martina

The wonders of being interconnected

Published by Abhishek on 16th Aug 2008 in Indian Telecom.

I seem to have embraced the digital lifestyle for sure. I must confess that I am hooked on to the Web 2.0 as a social phenomenon; although I do feel hamstrung by the pathetic and high cost of access here in this country.

I have a slow (and unreliable) BSNL connection at my home and a fantastic Airtel Broadband at my work place. My daily life revolves around checking my updated RSS feeds and email including the updates on Facebook. I progress to check the new updates in the journals across the world. I get all the twitter updates on my cell, although its difficult to ensure a smooth service. I use Flickr account to update my pictures and trust Opera to keep a track of my preferences, updated bookmarks and speed dial across the platforms and geographical location. I use You Tube to stream the programmes I have favourited and watched.

I dont fancy a Blackberry as yet because I dont need an expensive option to reply to emails. So by and large, I am connected and hooked to the Internet. It hasnt taken over my life as yet but I realise that connectivity can be so important to know about what’s happening in the real world.

All this has become possible recently as part of the “broadband” revolution sweeping in. This sounds like a cliche. It really is. Much of the country is in the dark as far as basic connectivity is concerned. The “deadlines” have been revised umpteen times and no one looses sleep over the fact that in the global race, Indians are left behind only because the system cannot nurture ideas. None of the applications I mentioned are hosted in India nor designed by Indians. There are a host of me too applications chasing the fragmented pie with a “desi flavour”; it remains a disappointing experience to see that they cannot even ensure coding their web sites with existing web standards.

Societal bonds would change with the increasing thrust of Internet. As geographical boundaries melt away, we are going to see an increasing collaboration of people with common interests coming on a common platform with more profusion of ideas to collaborate towards similar goals. All in all, the existing system should facilitate this interaction. Only then, we would see the true wonders of being interconnected and interaction.

i've been with Airtel for the last 2 years or so. I use their mobile office service (498/month) to connect to the internet from my computer. However, i face connectivity issues almost every month and they call it "System Upgradation", hell with so much of upgradation in the block (if only it were true) we might as well get to use 3G by now, guess they term "repairing the crappy network" as "upgradation", maybe these guys need a dictionary. I'm facing connectivity issues again from the 28th of this month. Tried calling up 121, it says "connection error". tried *121#, says "you're not a pre-paid customer." Tried again the next day, and got thru to a rep. After hearing my explanation of the issue, he suggested i might have messed up with my phone and i'd have to format it. Going with him, i formatted the phone and lost every bit of personalization. However, the problem persisted. Called up cust.care again, this time, the rep says (in his strange accent) "sir, i've checked the issue, and it would be fixed by the 2nd of next month at around 10:31am.., we are going thru another upgradation"...
Called up the GPRS help desk at 12150 after hearing this, the GPRS help desk rep informed that it wouldn't be taking more than 48 hours to fix AND APOLOGIZED on the previous rep's behalf. To re-confirm, i called up customer care at 121 again, and this person again told me it would be fixed on the 2nd at 10:31am... Don't you idiots keep a log or something so that all your reps lie the same way???? it's 30th today, 48 hours up, GPRS is still "going thru upgradation".. Crappy idiotic thieves. Good that TRAI is allowing CDMA providers to use the GSM spectrum, even tata indicom is better than this. YOU GUYS AT AIRTEL, ALL OF YOU REALLY REALLY SUCK BIG TIME, live with that.Need my number? it's 9748120280. Mess with it as much as you want to, see you at the consumer's forum. BEST OF LUCK.

Airtel Charging Rentals for Services Not Subscribed

Airtel customers beware! Airtel has come up with a rather sickening plan to fleece your balance through monthly rentals for value-added services like missed call alerts and news alerts.

Airtel had sent me an offer saying if I send an SMS to a toll free number, I could try out the new service called missed call alerts for free for a week or so. I did so and thought it would've expired naturally after a week. Now they have deducted a monthly rental for the stupid alert without informing me in anyway that they are providing me the service. They are doing this cheating on all the stuff they introduce new. It's particularly harmful for prepaid subscribers as they cannot do anything about it other than call customer care, who assure you that you are taken off from the service but you would still get messages saying your money is gone.

Msges like if you are an airtel/idea dial * to copy this dialer tones or get missed call alerts & blah blah

I mean they are not leaving any way to fleece its customers. The cell display feature which use to display area sometime back is now used by these companies for advertisement.
Only Dolphin in Delhi still show area info rest all show Dial blah numbers to get latest blah blah at chargeable at Rs5-6/min.

ANDHO MAY KAANA?

i have been using airtel for last 10 years and apart from a couple of time i have never faced any issues with their mobile service the same goes for their broadband service, which I have been using since last two years and it hasn’t even disconnected even once.

i saw so many bad reviews about airtel on this site and i wonder if the company is going down with their service or what? I think airtel should look into these issues seriously if they want to stay on the top.

guys all i can say is that airtel is andho main kaana raja. Just because our legal system is a little laggard we should not allow the corporates to take us on a ride. file a case in consumer court to teach them a lesson.

personally if you are buying a new mobile connection or broadband go for airtel, it’s less worse ;)
if you like learning from your own mistakes take some other connection ;)

LET ME GO!!!!!

From Mouthshut:

I live in PCMC area in Pune and I want to inform the users about the

I had airtel for about 8 months but after suffering constant dropped calls, poor voice quality, I decided to close my postpaid account. Accordingly I called up customer care center and raised a rrequest to close the account in the month of May. They connected me to the retention guys and after a brief discussion he agreed to close it. 2 days after the call, my card was deactivated and I thought the chapter was closed

Just a few days back I happened to check my emails (not used often) and found that there were bills with arrears lying from airtel. I called up airtel 121 customer care and they said that the service has been deactivated, but my account was still active hence I was supposed to pay the rentals (makes sense?). They then asked me for the ticket number with which I had raised a request to close the account. According to them, they do not have any such records. Yeah, i went through multitude of emotions, but keeping that out, I asked them to explain how they can charge a deactivated card and they had no answer. Only told me to go to the main office in Pune to resolve the issue.
I then asked them to close the account and their reply? They cannot raise a request to close the account on a deactivated number. I have to activate the number, for that I’ve got to pay the pending dues and then they can raise a request to close it...makes sense? Did not to me...
So long story short, I now have to go to the main office in Pune city and close the issue personally.
Request all users to be careful and get all the ticket numbers noted down (and save them for months together) and follow up till closure, else you might end up like me...

UNCHRISTIAN ALERTS!

From Mouthshut:

My husband is subscriber of Airtel and using prepaid sim card.

Airtel started sending messages to his mobile. Airtel neither sent a message what is this and what will be the charges. So he thought it is a free service from Airtel.

After a month or so, he received a message "Your subscription to CHRISTIAN ALERTS has been renewed. Thank You! Rs. 7 has been deducted from your a/c." After a week again he received the same message.

Then he called to "Customer care" number. As usual they replied you may have activated the service, otherwise we do not charge you.

Few sentences from the operator.

"Why you didn’t call us when the service was free ??""You have utilized the service, so money can’t be refunded to your a/c" answer to my husband’s question "Will I get the refund of the money deducted from my a/c? "So, if they activate a service which you don’t want, you have to call them and waste about half an hour to get an operator on the line and even after that the operator will talk here and there to you but without a solution of your problem. And if the problem is not solved from their side, they will charge you, which is not refundable.

At last, he had to request (they use this word) to deactivate the service. The operator said within twenty-four hours your service will be deactivated.

Next week again the same message was received and when contacted, the operator said, here it shows the service is deactivated, but I can’t tell why the amount is deducted from your a/c. Again, he told within 24 hours, we will check and you will receive a call from our back office.

By God grace, he is earning well, Rs. 7 is not a problem, but question here is : Can they activate any service (free or paid) without our permission ? Even the court has given us the right to register "Do Not Call". That means they do not have any right. Even if the amount deducted from your a/c illegally, they are not supposed to refund it.

If you had any problems with Airtel or any other service provider, write in "Comment" and hope some day any Airtel officer will read it.

Now you must have the idea, how they profit more.......................

LOSING JOB DUE TO POOR AIRTEL SERVICES

From Mouthshut:

I have the Airtel Mobile connection for the past 4-5 years. Holding 3 connection on the Dell CUG plan as I though it’s the best around. Airtel is unable to bare the weight of its own development. The support is pathetic than the BSNL service I should say.

I’ve lost my mobile in a train journey and have taken a duplicate SIM card after blocking the lost one. I was promised that the activation would be in ONE HOUR. Its 3 days and my mobile is still inactive. The Airtel Customer Care does not have the Madhapur Airtel Showroom they claim and finally they give a number which is not valid. So what can or may happen the same problem occurs with someone who paid the bill???

The most meaningless numbers for this service providers are 198 & 121. All they can do just promise and so nothing about it.

I interacted with at least 10 customer care reps and all of them promised me to get the connection activated in one hour which translated to 50hrs. They expect me to go to the Airtel outlet now and get the SIM replaced again. So do they expect me to wait another 50hrs to get the mobile active??????

Good for nothing reps I should tell. One tells me that I will receive a message with the complaint number and possible resolution time in SMS. Hellooooooo….my mobile is not active here, how the hell I can get a message.

I suggest all my colleagues at DELL to opt for any other connection but not Airtel. My JOB TODAY IS AT STAKE DUE TO THESE GUYS…..

I’m really happy to surrender all my Airtel SIMs back to them and would rather live with a Vodafone or BSNL even.

All who have read this, please think twice before opting for the SELF-CLAIMED the best AIRTEL.

Default Re: I Lost the long fight Against Airtel Broadband
thats how the system works... u complain - they send a guy - unable to rectify ur complaint - 1st they laugh at complain (if they cann't understand) and then at u - and if u get irritated, and then start irritating Airtel (or any Service provider), they offer to close down ur connection and refund the one time fees/deposit - and then u're left with nothin..

one is very clear, a complain is very valuable feed-back for the company (and thats true - atleast for the private service providers were there's no monopoly ), and if they cann't rectify then its there defect with the service provider, unrelated to nature of complain.

as regards to ur complain, i believe its routing specific and they jus can re-route the traffic from and of ur area as whole jus to satisfy only u (out of all BB users - there are less than 5 % serious gamers- i think) - best possible solution - grow ur local community which is on Airtel for gaming - and then complain collectively.. - that MIGHT help....

AREY BABA CHALIS CHOR

THINK TWICE

Ok if you are a prepaid Airtel consumer think more than twice before subscribing to any of thier promo schemes. It seems to be a front to knock off your balance and well at the end of it there is nothing you can do about it.

I had subscribed to their SUB38 scheme under which Rs 38 gets deducted from ur prepaid balance (after u send an SMS to 170 with SUB38) and you get the next 100 SMSes free for 30 days.

Day 1 - I send the message. Rs 38 gets immediately deducted from my balance. I send SMSes and and my balance is still getting deducted. I call up customer care and they say wait 24 hours.

Day 2- 24 hours later. My balance is still getting deducted. Call up customer care again..they register complaint. And the service is activated at 8pm

Day 3 - My prepaid balance goes from Rs 75 to zero rupees. Just like that. i call up customer care...and they say oh Rs 38 has got deducted from your prepaid balance twice because u subscribed to the SUB38 scheme. Your complaint is registered.

Day 4 - Deducted money still not back. [By now getting back the Rs 75 had become a mission]. Call up customer care. Put on hold for 5 minutes (30 seconds according to customer care). Than a "I am still checking checking.." and call gets cut. I call again. This time the fellow is some illiterate, illmannered idiot who keeps giggling throughout. I ask for his senior and he says koi nahi hai. I ask if the calls are monitored for quality and he giggles even more.
I call yet again. This time I am told sorry according to the system u sent the SUB 38 message twice so it got auto deducted. I asked am i an idiot to send a subscription message thrice...he says sorry according to the system u did. you must have got a confirmation thrice. I said not a single time -- well in that case u must have deleted them. And call ends.

Now what do i do? I wish thier was audio uploading facility here so i could record and upload those conversations.
